Sidewalk: property line question

According to my property survey my property line (on the street side) runs 10 feet from my building (down the middle of the sidewalk).
Does this affect my responsibility to maintain the complete sidewalk in front of my building? Does this have any significance?
[note there are 2 embedded steel markers in my sidewalk. they read “PRIVATE PROPERTY LINE- PUBLIC USE PERMITTED”

I believe it does have significance. Normally if you have a 1-3 family home in NYC, you are not liable for injuries that happen on the sidewalk. You can be fined for not maintaining it, but you can’t be sued if someone falls there. If it’s your property that may be different, although there is often an exclusion for private property open to the public, but you may want to make sure you understand this and comply with it properly. Secondly, you may want to consider closing it periodically to ensure you dont lose it to adverse property or right of way easements. I’d consult an attorney to determine what practices are necessary to best preserve your ownership rights and minimize your liability with respect to this area.

You are responsible as the property owner abutting the sidewalk to maintain the sidewalk in NYC, in front and if a corner property to the side of your lot lines, no matter if you or the City technically own it. So it really has no significance. You are responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in any event.
Replacing it to City specs when needed, sweeping & cleaning it as well as 18″ into the road, shoveling the snow etc ….
