Sidelights: replace or salvageable?

Hello,

We have side lights on our front entrance. House was built 1917 but been butchered a fair amount so no idea if these are original. The paint on the outside was so gloppy it was driving me nuts. I went to cut in a cleaner edge with a razor blade, but it seems like some of the wood cross pieces have rotted/ deteriorated. The paint is also mixed with a lot of caulking, presumably as a stop gap due to the wood. I’m not sure if all the cross pieces are that bad. Can the wood pieces be easily replaced or at this point should we just put in new sidelights?

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! I guess I expected it to be like a french door where the wood trim was the same size on both sides. When I could see the interior trim through the glass I panicked and stopped scraping. Now to find a local glazier.

What you scraped off looks like just window glazing, not wood. These windows are probably in good shape and don’t need to be replaced, just cleaned up a bit and re-glazed. A window glazier should be able to help you out, for a pretty penny, but will still be less expensive than replacing them.
