shared (?) drain in airshaft

our building has air-shafts in the middle of each unit, that we share with the buildings beside us–the L apartment shares with the left neighbors, the R apartment shares with the right neighbors. each shaft has a drain in the middle, and each building has a roof drain with a downspout that drains into the drain on the R side (the right of the building). how do we find out who is responsible for each drain? we have no deeds that we can find, to show who owns what. ideas?

ok, so the drain in question is to our left. it is fed by both the drain in the shared air shaft, as well as the drain that comes down from their roof. how do i prove this? the drain overflows and flood our basement. it needs to be fixed. there seems to be a question about responsibility of said drain. ideas?

Look in your basement and see if you see the drain pipe entering your basement somewhere on the side wall. You should see the pipe on one side and not the other.

that’s what i mean, but if the drain is smack in the middle, how do we determine who owns it? the building whose roof drains into the shaft? am i making sense?

Each building is responsible for its part of the air shaft and its own drain/main vent stack. Is that what you mean?
