Sewer line insurance from AWR
I don’t find any recent discussion on the insurance offered by AWR and payable through DEP. Does anyone have any claim experience with AWR? What’s the quality of work, what is covered and do they make a case for pre-existing conditions? Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. I did read that you have to call AWS and they send a contractor. If you were to get another blockage, and they send a contractor under what circumstances would that contractor recommend that the sewer line be replaced to the mains? I would like to hear about an experience where someone actually got the line replaced and paid for under AWS insurance.

They do not cover preexisting conditions which means everything. Waste of money

My experience was fairly limited, but I think highlights one of the challenges with this insurance. We had a sewer line backup that partially flooded the basement. I called a plumber and they located the blockage to outside the building, and we had it snaked out. When we went to make a claim, they said that only their authorized plumbers could touch anything in the pipe between the building and the sewer main. They refused to pay for anything, even if we could show that the blockage was due to a broken pipe. Thankfully, the snaking resolved (for now) the issue, but the takeaway was that if there was another backup in that section of pipe we shouldn’t touch it and call them right away. I even asked if hypothetically I could use a video scope and show that the pipe had failed, they said they wouldn’t cover it unless there was an emergency backup situation.
