Seeking moth exterminator recs ASAP

Hi neighbors,
We seem to have moths in our house. We are using a “ZappBug” oven to bake our woolen clothes (>120F) and rugs, cleaning out our closets, vacuuming everywhere, but we are thinking of having an exterminator come also and cover basement to top floor. Are there any exterminators that have done a fantastic job? Any to avoid “like the plague” (LOL)?

Are you sure you have moths? You may have carpet beetles. The latter leave quite big holes. Do you see insects (little flying beetles) on your windows and sills in the summer months? They are black or brown and shaped a bit like ladybugs only much smaller. Moths are easier to control. Wash and vacuum corners of closets, make sure all clothing — particularly wool — is clean before you put it away. With carpet beetles it’s a bit more complicated. It’s similar to bed bug treatment, but the bugs can be anywhere in the house, not only near where you sleep. You can pay an exterminator and go through all the work, and you might still have them. Whatever route you decide to go, frequent vacuuming is needed. Make sure your laundry is in closed containers, and none of your clothing, shoes, or accessories are out in the open. Take the extra precaution of putting especially tasty items, such as cashmere sweaters, in plastic containers within other closed containers such as dressers, closets, etc.

Are you sure these are the moths that eat your clothes or the moths that are in your pantry? I had pantry moths and it was a pain to get rid of them but the approach to exterminating them is different

In my experience you need to keep using the traps over a long period of time. The numbers of moths are gradually reduced. Also keep cleaning or washing your woolen clothes frequently. Moths eat deposits on woolens.
