Seeking Architect, Engineer and Contractor for Basement Excavation

We are considering a basement excavation. The current ceiling height is about 6 feet and the basement is unfinished. We would like to dig as much as we can to gain ceiling height as well as finish the basement. For anyone who has dug out their basement successfully, can you recommend some professionals that we can consult with and potentially hire to handle the job? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Hi @bkowner38 did you ever redo your basement? Curious how it all went and who you went with.
I’m in the process of doing the same and keep getting cold feet after reading stories of things going wrong.

The necessity of an architect is debatable and really depends on the inclusion of specific scope items. As far as G.C.’s go, Killowen Construction https://www.killowenconstruction.com/ assisted me with an excavation in Fort Greene. They typically like projects with more meat on the bones but may consider getting involved if they are available.

I wanted to avoid underpinning as we have common walls with neighbors and one of our neighbors is a hassler. The structural engineer advised us to dig down to see where the foundation was and it turned out we were able to go down without underpinning. We used Finegold Gregory architects.

We just did completed our cellar. The engineer we consulted was Greg Pillori of Pillori Associates. We ended up not needing to underpin as our foundation went down.
