Sealing Cellar Hatches
I am looking to seal the front and rear hatches to the cellar of my brownstone, not so they no longer open but just fill-in any gaps to prevent water getting in. Has anyone had success with a waterproofing product that would work in this application? If so, I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Call Mike Matonti at Heathrow Construction Corp. and get a water-tight Bilco hatch installed. It won’t be inexpensive but your problem will be solved forever. We replaced our front and rear hatches for exactly this reason. Couldn’t be happier.

I have always wondered what the best way to approach this was myself. Ours is very drafty and keeps the ground floor front bedroom cold. Has anyone installed a door there to stop the cold from coming in? Right now we just have insulation stuffed into anywhere we could find.

About five years ago I installed a Bilco product that is fully sealed. It has worked well.

Thanks, I too have been using the rubber mats which work ok. I just need to find a waterproofing product that could fill-in the gaps to further reduce or eliminate the water leaking in.
