Scrap metal dealer?

Hi,

We’re converting our house to air source heat pumps for heating and cooling. This means that there is now a lot, I mean a LOT, of useless (to us) metal around the place in the form of radiators, piping, a boiler, you get the idea. Is there anyone around who has a use for this stuff to the extent that they would come and do the demo and take it all away at no charge? Hey, I can dream, cant I? 😉

I’m actually curious if there are any special companies that purchase an old card for metal recycling? Maybe you have something in mind? I only hear about one in Atlanta, it is called Fulton Metals Recycling. https://fultonmetalsrecycling.com/commercial-services/ Have anyone heard something about this company? Would be grateful to receive any feedback or recommendation.

i meet a lot of the scrap metal people because in my business i generate some scrap and people tend to give me things and when we cannot find a use for those things it has to go. i keep the phone numbers of scrap metal people around but those numbers frequently stop working and that tells me something; this work is not so lucrative that they can continue doing it. ok, you have a van and you can eat (and buy a little of whatever your immediate need – “fix” is) but as soon as the van breaks down, the money is not there to make the repair and you move on to something else.

aside from that, i would be very leery of letting people who exist on the fringes into a house to remove the items you mention. they are not trained for that and these things are heavy and what happens if they run into a live gas line and you are not around and they think it is there to be cut? or the copper water pipes that you will want to use but they know bring a lot more $ for whatever it is they want to buy that night (this is why we stay away from people who exist on the fringes, this i s where the issues arise). in short, if you want someone to come into the house and behave like a professional, you will have to pay them.

if you can get it to the curb, you might find someone. last year i had a got stop and ask me when a metal door was coming off a house i was working on. i took down his number and called him and he took the door the next day. for some reason, i cannot locate his number.
