Scott Schnall again...Please help! Compliance Audit

Would really appreciate if you can share your recent experience and a contact for an expediter who helped you! We had done a very modest gut reno of a 2-br townhouse years ago…Alt 2/dir 14. The permits are open (except plumbing) – the contractor on record also lost his licence and i just could not deal with it all anymore – mentally or financially. Scott told me permits can stay open indefinitely if no work is done….

The tenant just found a “notice to call for inspection” on the door and i see in the system
Category Code: 4B SEP – PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION COMPLIANCE AUDIT
Assigned To: SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT Priority: B

No, I am even less equipped to deal with this right now…! Did you have a similar situation? What could be done?? What is the worst case scenario? Can you negotiate with the DOB to postpone the inspection by 6 months…? And again – a contact of the expeditor who superseded Scott’s filing… Thank you!

Last I heard Scott is unlicensed but: https://www.gofundme.com/scott-schnall-vs-dob
I left a donation there because I had dealt with the family for 40 years – new people in his office – would never go back. Google his name.

Most, if not all, of Scott Schnall’s jobs had their permit put on hold, with notice to revoke. You do NOT want that permit revoked. If that happens, you can get a violation for work without a permit. You can even get that violation if you have an open permit if the contractor’s actual work permit has expired, which it will one year from being issued. You want to get this superseded by another architect and closed out properly. If I were you, I’d call an architect or engineer and start the process immediately. If there are no changes to the plan compared to what was filed, then it’s possible that you don’t need an architect/engineer to supersede Scott as the applicant, but just as the Special Inspector.

Dob will issue ECB violation anyway. If no show and no corrections court will make a judgement and everything will go south. Permits will stay open. It has nothing to do with permits. It has to do with case against expeditor, engineer , architect and contractors or whoever investigated. Dob goes through each job on record to pick up every mistake made in the last 30 +years. DOI want procecute whoever they investigate and build
the case. Or it is just routine review.
In any case do not ignore it.
I had to go through this process recently. It was routine review but we needed to amend plans and show to court certificate of correction. to get it resolved. No big deal if done correctly.

I may be wrong, but I don’t see why they shouldn’t ignore it? Wouldn’t DOB revoke the permit and it would effectively be no longer open? Which it sounds like what the OP would want.

Inspector will come, compare what on plans and what was done, if discrepancies found, plans must be amended and submitted to plan examiner for review and approval. Do not ignore it.
