Rules on minisplits in multifamilies

I know that in like 2012, they loosened up the rules on minisplit AC units in one and two family buildings, but I’m having the toughest time finding existing regulations for multi family buildings, where if I remember, there are a bunch of restrictions on compressor placement in the backyard. I’ve talked to a couple contractors who’ve either been oblivious or said, “Just put it where it’s convenient for you—no one ever complains” We’ve got the typical parlor/garden duplex with exclusive backyard, so I’m tempted to put it wherever the heck we feel like, but I also don’t want to drop $20k on something that’ll become a huge issue on resale. If the legit rules will make us roof-mount and run it down three stories, forget it.
