Rug on steel deck
Hi. I’m the happy owner of a new all-steel, slatted deck. We decided not to cover with wood for fire-safety reasons. However, I’m struggling with furniture that will not poke through the slats. Does anyone have experience with an outdoor rug on top of their deck? Seems like a good compromise and would just roll it up over the winter. Thanks!

Coming in late but I bought some of the interlocking ikea decking tiles and put those atop the steel deck. Then, I put an outdoor rug from Wayfair atop it. Outdoor rugs are made of a plastic type material so retain little moisture and dry very quickly. Was an inexpensive solution that I am honestly pretty happy with.

I have the same and I have a combination of things to solve the issue. If you find furniture that doesn’t have thin legs then you’re ok as is, I have a coffee table and love seat that have a base of horizontal slats, I have another piece that has a square base. But I also have some ikea cabinets with legs and I just put them on some 6×6 decorative tile samples. I also have some chairs with quite thin legs and I use those rubber squares which are really designed to keep your furniture from denting a carpet. Does the trick tho. Not sure if links are allowed on this forum, but here’s what I got. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018H0NDRG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These are a little too flexible, if I had it to do over I’d get something stiffer. I do also have an area rug so for those big chairs I put the front legs on the rug, the back legs in these squares. I’ve never had an issue with my rug causing rusting and I’ve had one on the deck for about 6-7 years now.

Steve are you saying raised decking will compromise finish or the rug? With decking, the steel will be exposed underneath. There should be air flow if the decking is slightly raised.

What about a floating deck tile like this product?

I am thinking it will retain moisture and compromise the finish or raw steel. Galvanized, maybe ok

Try an inexpensive outdoor rug. You don’t have much to loose if you don’t like it.

We added decking but that might be overkill.
