rodent problem in ventilation system

I have what I believe is a rat living in the dryer ventilation duct.

I found where he was getting in, and covered that hole with screen. As he later ate through that, I got chicken wire. That’s been holding solid for a couple of months.

However it appears he is finding another way in. I am still seeing droppings.

Any recommendations? What type of pro to call? Recomendations?

I have a rat problem and found a really good exterminator, a mom and pop business where they really spend time, and he in front of me explained his reasoning process all along. He ended up tracing the entire behavior of ‘my’ rats, leading to the den (nest?) in my cellar. He was infinitely better than the previous exterminator company I used. Feel free to PM or respond here and I can provide details. He cost in the low 200’s and spend good 45m+ at my home, thoroughly looking inside and outside.

I agree though, with the strategy of getting an exterminator instead of relying on your own DIY. If one rat can get in, other rats (or mice) can get in from whatever entry points remain.

I have used a handful of exterminators, but felt like they just passed some kind of certification course. I was referred this summer to a father/son company (father is entomologist, son also studied it) that has been totally amazing. Downside is that its a small operation out of LI, and they are not in Brooklyn every day, but they’re so much better than everyone else i have used. .They do a bunch of restaurants in park slope area so they deal plenty about mice and rats. You need an exterminator — pest control.
