Residential Parking Permits

Does anyone know how brooklyn heights acquired residential parking permits, and what the process would be to bring permitted parking to other neighborhoods in Brooklyn?

I live in western bed-stuy and parking has become more and more difficult. We’ve also found that some local businesses seem to be taking advantage of the lax parking restrictions by parking multiple out of state registered vans on our block making a challenging parking situation even more difficult. Residents on the block are definitely frustrated, but we’re not sure what our options are. Does anyone know where a complaint can be filed? I tried 311, and they said there was nothing illegal and nowhere to complain about this.

Residential parking permits seem like they could help but not sure how to get the idea off the ground.

Thanks for clarifying all. I must’ve confused the permit signs for city workers with residential parking permits.

I came across the article online indicating the issue was being explored https://abc7ny.com/traffic/city-council-considering-residential-parking-permit-system/3390629/ . Guess we’ll have to wait and see what the result of the study is.

there are absolutely no residential parking permits in Brooklyn Heights. I park my car in the neighborhood and fight with alternate side just like everyone else. the only permit spots are close to downtown where there are areas reserved for city workers.

Not true. There are no neighborhoods in NYC that require residential permits.

The only thing Brooklyn Heights has that is unlike most other communities, is that there is parking allowed on only one side of the street for most days of the week. On days when there is alternate side of the street parking, the other side opens for parking.

I do recall driving in Brooklyn Heights this past summer and there are streets where it require permits for you to park.

I don’t see how Brooklyn heights would have residential parking permits as NYS Legislature would need to approve any residential parking program.

Is this true? I know that there was talk about this last spring, but didn’t know it had been implemented.
