Replace old water heater (need permit?)
Old unit from around 2006 needs to be replaced soon (no issues with it but due to age would like to replace), question is do I need a permit? Checked dob website and appears I do, but old unit was done without a permit, and I would need to do some other work if I need to get a permit for this one. It is easier for me to just do the job without a permit, but not sure of risks involved. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

Actually there was one time I got a permit for a hot water heater. I filed to replace a boiler, so I put the water heater on there too because the gas work had to be inspected.

I’ve replaced 50+ water heaters over the years and never got a permit.. with no trouble.

dob requires a permit if you are replacing a hot water tank, years past it was not required but now it is. I have a 2 family home, 50 gallon tank. a few of my neighbors have done it without permits, but I wanted to get advice from anyone who has replaced one recently

No one gets a permit to replace a normal hot water heater.
Like for like?
