Repaint cornice in black flat or semi-gloss?

We are having our townhouse cornice repainted and can’t decide whether to choose flat or semi-gloss. Any input from the forum?

Personally I LIKE seeing the imperfections on old things, but that’s just me.

When things are in really good condition gloss is the way to go. Look at a pair of doors done with fine paints of europe. Also understand that to do that kind of paint job requires prep comparable to an auto finish. If the surface is less than perfect, all the eye sees is imperfections.

This is v SO subjective. I personally like glossy (oil-based Rustleum for my stamped metal cornice) and don’t mind shii u wing imperfection on antique metal work. Obviously there’s NO “correct “ answer.

For me flat and gloss are out. Flat looks like a cheap rattle can and gloss looks gaudy as it draws your eyes right to it. In the middle with low lustre, eggshell, satin, or semi etc is more of a personal preference and most of them seem tasteful enough to my eyes. I believe I have low lustre.

Low lustre black. Semi gloss and gloss will reflect light and make the imperfections show. Some will probably correctly say semi is more durable than low lustre
