removing Ailanthus Trees/Tree of Heaven
We are looking to remove from our backyard 2 old ailanthus trees that attract spotted lantern flies that have made the backyard uninhabitable. These trees are very hard to remove because they spread through the roots. Most tree removal services I have called will not use (and claim to have never heard of) the proper procedure: applying herbicide to kill the tree to its roots and then about a month later removing the tree. Can anyone recommend a competent, reliable tree removal service that will do the job the right way?

so the round up is working on the upper parts of my tree by wilting the leaves. but i am worried that it will not kill the root.
this is my thought: if the big one ever happens, the only thing that will be left on earth are rats, cockroaches, crabgrass, and these trees.

I did not realize what it was i was dealing with until i saw your post, but i have one and sprayed it sometime last week with round up. Let’s see how that goes.
The reason the tree people you are talking to about spraying these don’t seem to do so may be that they know they have to be licensed by the DEC and are afraid to do so without a license. A homeowner can spray something on their own property.
