Relocating a dishwasher

I’ve gotten a different opinion from each contractor I’ve interviewed, so hoping someone here can help.

We are going to turn our L shape kitchen into a U shape. The end of the future U now holds the sink and dishwasher, but when we add the new cabinetry perpendicular to that, there won’t be room for the dishwasher in its current spot. So our idea is to just move the dishwasher to the new wall, about 6 feet from its current location if you measure around the perimeter.

One contractor says we cannot move the dishwasher more than 4 feet away from the shutoff valve, so he wants to extend the water line from the kitchen sink to place dedicated shut off valves closer to where the dishwasher will be.

I can’t find a reference to this anywhere in the code, and I’ve always heard that you can put a dishwasher wherever you want since it’s just flex tubing that drains/feeds the water. The plumbing aspect would trigger filing and more expense, so I want to avoid if possible.

Anyone have enough knowledge of the code to help clarify?
