Reliable lawyer to sue contractor

Hi, My contractor has basically abandoned my renovation and i need a recommendation for a good lawyer to sue him. Its above $5000 so small claims won’t work.

How much above $5k are we talking about? Unless it is many, many, many times above $5k, you are going to spend more on a lawyer chasing this money than the amount you recover (if any).

Hopefully, you didn’t let payments get ahead of the work (note to everyone, never do that). Finish the job first with someone else (unless you have sign-off issues). See how much more you spent in total than the original contract, then figure out if that is worth a suit. If you need the contractor to get you DOB signoffs, then you should be more concerned about pushing him to do that, and just that, then in litigating over the money.
