Recommending carpenter/ stair repair guy

Shout out for Patrick deVerteuil, a skilled carpenter who repaired my staircase. The 120-year-old stairs made horribly loud squeaking/groaning noises; several stair companies told me I should replace the whole thing at a cost of around $7000-$8000. While replacing would have been nice in a way–the treads are a bit dinged from years of use, I wasn’t able to spend that much. Patrick told me he could replace the stairs (also for $7000) but he could repair them and make the noise 70 percent better, for $625. He added screws to the treads to secure them better to the frame underneath, countersunk the screws, and filled in the holes. I’d say it’s now closer to 90 percent better–most of the stairs are silent, and the ones that were the worst are just slightly squeaky.

Patrick does all sorts of carpentry work, and I’ve already hired him for another job. Highly recommend!
