Recommendations for someone who does aluminum window flashing?

We have 14 windows that need the final black aluminum flashing installed with caulking. This is someone who would come out with a break and custom bend the necessary pieces. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated – 4 story brownstone in Bed-Stuy. Also curious what an average price would be on a job like this – thank you Brownstoner community!

Agreed it’s high. Shop around. I always call 4-5 places now as a rule.

Got pricing from the company mentioned above, seems crazy high – 10 of the windows are arched so we’re looking at almost $10k for the job, I’ll do it myself…

Windows with arches $725 per up to 80” over 80” $825 per
Rectangle head $550 under 80” and $650 per over 80”

Yes it’s a brake – I’ve actually used them before for the windows on the back of the house but just too busy at the moment to knock out the front.

Really appreciate the info and terminology! Yes, brake, not break. They could also access the windows from inside the apartments if that helps – wouldn’t need that 32′ ladder or so.

so i can help you with the language a little and tell you who (what kind of contractor) will do such a job.

you are looking for a siding contractor and/or a window contractor. you do not need a full on window contractor. you need someone with a “‘hand brake’ to make the bends” and have the climbing equipment – so a siding contractor will suffice.

when i worked for a home improvement contractor years and years ago now, this kind of job was termed a “trim job”. the pieces to be bent are made from “coil stock” (not flashing) and what they are installing after they bend the pieces are “caps”. we said we were “capping the window trim”. you can tell the companies you call you “need your window trim capped”.

i was the guy on the ground making those bends as my boss did the cutting and fitting and nailing.

i cannot speak to climbing up the front of a brownstone because we did these on colonials in the ‘burbs. while my boss was willing to do them, they were not expensive jobs but where easy. i had better no try to estimate the time because when we did these (aside from being that long ago that my memory is foggy – early 1980’s) we would often be trimming everything – the facia, soffit, brick mold, garage door trim.

if others do not post someone here, i was on a job about two years ago and met a crew that i thought did good work. i might be able to rout their name out.
