recommendations for a dehumidifier
We need to get a dehumidifier for our basement. We’d like one we can just keep running, with a hose attachment, so we don’t need to deal with constantly dumping the tank. Does anyone have a specific model they recommend?

I just went through a search for a new one since I gave an old one away to a friend who suffered a flood after Sandy. I bought the expensive Frigidaire one but it pumped out so much heat that it fixed one problem and created another. Then I bought a Soleus one which was less warm, but really loud. And lastly (this is sounding like goldilocks and the three bears) I bought a small cheap one from Home Depot and it is working a treat! It has auto restart which is essential unless you want the thing to consume electricity 24/7/ http://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-Electronics-30-Pint-Dehumidifier-WAS-198-LD301EL/202848118#.UdTsIb_A3s8

Anyone have any idea on the cost to run one of there?

We have a GE 30 pint (model ADER30LQQ1) that we bought from J&R TV/A/C on 7th Ave in Park Slope. We use the hose attachment and have it drain directly into a sump pump pit. It has run continuously for over a year, and works like a charm. I highly recommend. If it’s draining into a pit, etc – you don’t need a large one: capacity of the bucket doesn’t matter.

The pump on our Delonghi failed after a year and a half and the only place I could find within 50 miles who would fix it was Sears at Kings Plaza (The only authorized Delonghi repair was way out on the Island). Sears botched the repair and I ended up giving the otherwise functional dehumidifier away to a _Brownstoner_ with a floor drain. We got a deal on a Kenmore 70 pint model which seems to be working fine. Note: I tried to remove my useless picture, but couldn’t find a way to do it.

I recently picked up a Delonghi 50pint model from Costco which also has a built in pump system – exactly what you’re looking for it sounds. Its been working great and was a relative bargain at $199 vs more expensively priced non pump models I’ve seen elsewhere. Be careful to follow instructions and let it rest for 24 hours right side up before starting the unit – the first one that I bought didnt function at all after I missed those instructions. http://reviews.costco.com/2070/11646049/delonghi-delonghi-50-pint-dehumidifier-with-patented-pump-system-reviews/reviews.htm
