Receive $5000+ of home improvements by participating in energy efficiency study

The Pratt Center for Community Development is coordinating the EnergyFit NYC Pilot to study ways to make it easier, cheaper and faster for homeowners to implement energy upgrades in their homes. Selected homeowners will receive home improvements valued between $5200 and $5600 that will not only save energy but also improve the health, comfort, and safety of their buildings. Measures include air sealing, weatherstripping, insulation and home health and safety tests and improvements.

For this phase of the Pilot, we are focused on one-or two-family, attached, masonry, gas-heated homes built before 1930. There is a sliding scale participation fee of up to $250 (depending on one’s income) and the willingness to complete four brief, quarterly surveys. All other costs are covered by the Pilot.

Someone from the Pratt Center phoned me today. It seems like this program isn’t for me because I had most of the energy saving improvements it covers [most notably roof insulation] done already, but it sounds like a good deal for many homeowners.

The study is 100% legit. One thing to note is they are looking for homeowners who would benefit from energy efficiency improvements and have been living in their homes for a year I think already (to provide baseline comparison).

I wanted to participate, but house need to be attached on both sides… Technically my house was attached on both sides, but at some point in time before I bought it, the house next door was demolished and is still an empty lot.
