Reader question: How do I install an elevator?

On behalf of a Brownstoner reader: Does anyone have any information about installing a functional elevator in a landmark townhome? An elevator shaft already exists in the building, but it is derelict and inoperable. Any personal experience, expertise, or professional recommendations are welcome!
