Random National Grid home inspection

Just came home and got this notice left on my front door. National Grid is using a contracting company to do inspection and if you do not call them back to schedule, a $100 fine or your gas service will be terminated? I never heard this before, is this legit? Never receive any communication from National Grid about this. I’m a bit skeptical, even though I done everything up to code, just curious if they will give any violation or require replacement if current condition of gas equipment does not meet their standard.

@petebklyn How long was the process? I’m hearing the inspection takes 15 mins per meter and if there are any issues then a ticket will be open to National Grid and their tech will be doing the repair?

yes, is legit. Is required by law. I received the card and scheduled appt. He found a leak and technician from gas company came and repaired. No cost. because was before the meters so their responsibility.

Precision pipeline solutions, it’s in photo that I attached. After more research on National Grid website, it looks like they will be inspecting all gas supply equipment, mandated by NYS.

A neighbor of mine detected a slight whiff of gas in his basement & had a plumber look & discovered many microscopic leaks throughout. We both wondered if NG, after a test of the work, would start general inspections. This might be exactly that.

I received a similar notice but from ConEd, they wanted to inspect the main gas line coming into the building and the meters. They found a leak around one of the meters and replaced it. They didn’t pressure test individual lines or look at anything outside the common area in the basement.

They also sent a 3rd party company to do the inspections, my guess is this is something new required annually as a result of the gas explosions we’ve seen.

The number that they have given at the bottom for National Grid is the right number for National Grid, call National Grid directly and ask them to confirm & also what specifically are they looking for.
Probably leaks, so it might be good to have your own plumber do a pressure test before you let their “contractors” in. Because they will be there to look for work…..

Looks phony to me. But if you’re worried about it you could simply ignore the number on the flier and call a proper National Grid phone number and speak to a representative there about your account. If they actually do need to inspect your property, a service representative would know. Whatever you do, don’t call the number on the flier and don’t agree to anything unless you’re positive it’s National Grid.
