Radiator painting?
Has anyone had their radiators powdercoated? It’s so hard to get a good coat of paint on them while they’re in place, so I’m thinking about removing them. Or is there some other process I should consider? Basically looking for any advice about a durable way to repaint radiators. Or is it easier to just hide them in boxes?

You can remove the radiator if you want proper paint even on the wall side of the radiator or you can paint around it. You can use the special rollers to get as far down behind it as you can. Nothing however gets around the fact that to do this job properly.

i stripped my own years ago and spray painted them and they came out fine. but it was a lot of work and from a business perspective, i decided it was not viable.
i think i used rustoleum high heat. a flat or matt finish. i would have primed as well as i believe in that but i do not recall what primer i used.
i saw some shot peened ones once and they were really sharp looking.

ours is hot water too – I am hesitant to really sand them because I imagine there might be at least one layer of lead paint on there. I painted a couple of them with regular paint and it looks OK but after 5-10 years it started peeling again.

Personally, I admire the look of sandblasted radiators. I believe there’s somewhere on SI or in NJ that does this. But you’d need to move fasting to get it done before the heating season begins. Another approach altogether: we had most of our rads painted matte black at the suggestion of a designer friend. They look surprisingly stylish and of course never show the dirt! FWIW, we have used standard paint on both rads and risers with no ill effects. Ours is a HW system; steam systems may need specialty paint (heat resistant) because they get hotter.
