Question: Closing a Work Permit
We completed a renovation in our coop unit a few months ago and the Board of Directors wants proof that the work permit has been closed out. All relevant forms have been submitted to the DOB by our architect and Special Inspectors and the permit is awaiting final sign-off, presumably by the Gen. Contractor. However, the Contractor is giving us the run-around, claiming that this is the job of the architect (the architect denies that he is responsible for the sign-off and directs us back to the Contractor). We are anxious to move past this year-long ordeal and just need to clarify who is responsible for signing off/closing our work permit. Any insight or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply! I’ve just poked the architect again. It makes sense that he would be the one to sign off on the Self Certification rather than the Contractor. I want to avoid involving more inspectors, etc. if I can help it. This whole process has already been so long and stressful (not to mention expensive)!

Technically then the architect should perform the the final sign off for you. Ask him why he’s not signing off, and what he needs from the contractor. Is the plumbing permit still open perhaps? A special inspection needed? If the architect is unwilling or unable to get the job done, such as could be the case if his directive 14 priveleges were revoked or he’s just refusing to do it and you can’t motivate him, I believe you can hire a special inspector(or is it another architect?) to close it. I’m not sure how that works, maybe an architect will chime in here, but I’m pretty sure it is possible to get someone else to sign it off.

Yes, it’s an Alteration Type 2 with Directive 14.

Is it a directive 14 job?
