Project Mismanagent by Board - Options? Next steps?

Our condo board insisted that we have our deck resurfaced due to waterproofing concerns 4 stories below us. We acquiesced (they selected the contractor per by laws), we shouldered the cost to remove and reinstall our HVAC, and were then shocked when a few months later they insisted that the same work be performed again.

This time the contractor that they selected destroyed our deck, damaged our deck furniture, created leaks that hadn’t been present resulting in ruptured floor boards, leaking ceilings and generally unsafe conditions. The contractor has proven themselves to be unable to successfully perform the work, and the board has been unable to move forward with a plan that solves any of the problems due to the project being fiscally mismanaged. This has been going on for almost 10 months. Today we experienced a massive infestation of ants (hundreds and hundreds) in our bedroom. We have a newborn sleeping in the room with the infestation and the limit of our tolerance has been reached.

What can we do? What are our options? Should we speak with a lawyer? Should we shoulder the cost of fixing the issues ourselves and deduct the amount from our common charges?

You have a newborn, have a reputable licensed contractor come in and repair any leaks, get an exterminator for the ants, and consult with a lawyer. Worry about reimbursement later.
