Problems with IKEA Kitchen Order Delivery?

If you have an IKEA kitchen, I’m wondering if you had problems with the delivery? I got an email on July 31st telling me that the cabinets and everything else had shipped out on a truck and were heading to the local delivery company. Today was supposed to be my delivery date. But, so far, the shipment never arrived at the local deliverer. On Wednesday, I spent 1 hour and 50 minutes on hold on IKEA’s customer care line before I actually spoke to someone who said it still appears to be in transit. The next day, a slight improvement, 45 minutes on hold. But still, my kitchen order has not materialized. By now, I could have driven clear across the country. No one can seem to tell me where my kitchen order is and time is money. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Cancelled order after three confirmed deliveries which never arrived. Order lost in the warehouse of the delivery co. for a month. Ikea refunded without hassle. The problem is not Ikea but the delivery co., XPO Logistics which is a U.S. corporation.

My friends ordered a [lift chairs](https://flipboard.com/@maxgoodz/top-15-best-lift-chairs-review-2019-r5qdlinry) from Ikea. Months laters, yes months, after they charged back the purchase they got a mattress. Don’t bother trying to work with Ikea’s broken delivery system.

Yes, agreed – Ikea is not geared for online shopping. To be clear though, I had placed my order in-store working with one of their kitchen planning reps. Delivery was still screwed up.

Bottom line is that Ikea isn’t really an online seller. Yeah, they have a website but it’s really just for browsing. You must go to the store and buy the stuff you need. Btw, one of the reasons I think Ikea doesn’t sell well online is that they haven’t developed an international logistics operation like Amazon. They aren’t set up for it. Also when it comes to buying something complex, like cabinets, which have lots of components, buying completely online from any retailer is not ideal.

I had good experiences buying Ikea kitchen cabinets in person, twice. First when we renovated the rental apartment in our house, and then eight years later when we replaced all the doors on the cabinets we bought. It took me maybe two hours and I drove everything home myself, same day.

I had a similar experience. Ordered about 8k worth of cabinets for kichens and laundry room (2-family townhouse reno). They were supposed to deliver July 30 – half the items were delivered and the other half were “lost” in the warehouse! After more than a frustrating week of calling/ being on hold/ being hung up on, no one could tell us where the items were & if/ when they were going to be delivered! I went to the store in Red Hook and handled in person at the customer service counter. It took almost 2 hours to sort through – but it got done. They had to cancel the missing items on the old order and put in a new order. *Should* be delivered tomorrow (2 weeks late). It’s best to go to store in person if you can make the time – they can’ t ignore you if you’re standing there and refusing to leave 🙂 Your experience is not isolated – there were many others there like me who’s orders were “lost.” Good luck!

Just wanted to offer up a bit of a counterpoint – I feel like Ikea gets a (mostly) undeserved bad rap a lot of times. I’ve put in three full Ikea kitchens, so I have a decent amount of experience in the matter. Now, to be fair, I have always gone to the store to purchase and brought home myself – I’ve never used their delivery service. BUT, in my experience, the people in the kitchen department in-store are usually knowledgable, and very familiar with all the components and extra bits you need. And I believe, and could be wrong on this, that ordering online and ordering in-store and getting home delivery goes through two different systems. Since there’s an Ikea in Brooklyn, if you are at the point where you know what you want well enough to order it online, I can’t imaging it would be much of a time savings vs going to the store and ordering in person. They’ll also have better info on what’s in stock or not. And as I said, it’s a different system somehow – when you buy in-store, they pull from their stock and arrange delivery from the store – so there theoretically would be more direct access to accountability if something goes wrong. I know their kitchens are not necessarily the highest quality, and don’t have a ton of customization options, but I’ve found it to be a well thought-out system and have had good luck with it.

Their ordering on line & delivery systems are not compatible to business or human needs these days.
A few months ago I placed a fairly large order of kitchen cabinets on line; I have done this before so I am aware of all the extra components that you need, even though the online system does not tell you or suggest that you might also want to order this or them etc. It took literally hours, because their system takes for ever. Finally order complete, I got a confirmation email and an email to say a delivery will be scheduled soon….. two weeks later I get an email that certain bits were no longer available, no mention of when new stock may be available. I called, no answer from a human…. no return call, no response from an email I sent…. I will get an email I finally got an email 3 weeks later that some of the order will be delivered on a certain date…… I do not want parts without know when or if I can get the rest……. to make a long story short it was a night mare of several months!

I tried again with a large order of beds, a sofa, table & chairs etc etc for staging a house…. to make another long story short… some of the order came, some did not. The cushions of an arm chair got left on the warehouse loading dock by accident as per the delivery guys, they said that they would go back & get them & bring them that evening, I never saw of heard from them again and IKEA would not replace, they expected me to pay for them… almost as much as the whole chair! The rest of the order that had been confirmed initial was not available on the delivery day, so I would have to re-order them. I did, the delivery dates where changed by them 3 times!

The bottom line, if I do not have time to go into a store to pick up all the parts I want right then with a UHAUL to take it all with me. DO NOT BUY FROM IKEA.
When they waste so much of your time how cheap are they?

ours was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday, we got a cancellation notice that day at 3pm, and can’t get through to anyone on the 800 number. We keep just getting, “all circuits are busy” message. I have tried contacting on social media and no responses yet, it’s getting ridiculous!!
