Pressure city to finish street repairs?

Hi! Our block association would really like to see progress on a series of street repairs. Our gas lined was replaced and some other unknown work was conducted on the sidewalk that has left patches of asphalt everywhere, in long stripes spanning the length of the block. Many sinkhole issues remain. We are in Bed-Stuy/Ocean Hill and want to induce the city to complete this work promptly. It has left tons of problems on our block over the years. Thoughts on who to contact or advocate with? If it helps, I’m an attorney, so any legal claims to research would also be of interest. I think we’ll begin with a concerted 311 effort, of course. Thanks for your input.

Even if it isn’t “the City” — it still is. Utilities cannot dig up the street without a permit. I would not expect a utility to be all that responsive to pressure from neighbors. But they would be more responsive to [pressure from pols, DOT, etc.

I don’t think this is accurate. All cuts into the street require a permit for NYC Department of Transportation and the DOT are responsible for monitoring the work and seeing that it meets all the requirements of the permit which include a proper and timely restoration.

Gas Line work iis National Grid, not the City. National Grid or their contractors are responsible for the street repairs. Call the Public Service Commission if National Grid does not respond in a timely manner,

yes, call your council member. when i lived in fort greene i called tish james to get some potholes filled on my block and she got it done within 2 weeks.

This is bigger picture stuff than a 311 call. I think what you want is political pressure. Local councilmember, community board, hungry district leaders, borough president etc. Reach out as a block association if you can, as a group,. rather than just a series of disgruntled individuals.
