pocket door is bowed; can it be fixed?

We had planned to reuse a pair of original pocket doors. On one of them, the stile in the center is bowed by as much as 3/8 inch. We can just use it as is, but then the doors don’t close properly. Is there any way to fix it? If not we either live with it or build new doors.

Thanks again, Santos and Steve. We have decided to build new doors to be the pocket doors, then save the slightly bowed door and its mate to be closet doors.

That’s all real nice work santos. I fix pocket doors as well and refinish them and i can come on this board and plaster it with photos. But sometimes people just need to know how to fix things and can use a little advice. There is some benefit to helping people and asking for nothing in return.

Keep in mind, wood often bends when the mousture is out of balance between the two sides. But if that is not the case, it will stay this way or go back to it.

Kicking this up, maybe Steve of Tinker’s Wagon knows. Maybe it can be removed, weighted for a month or two, perhaps steamed, and straightened out? Interesting question.
