Plumber recommendation for a water heater

we decided to replace our 40 Gal AO Smith gas water heater (in the easily accessible cellar. 6 years old and works great – but the warranty is 6 years…) with the SAME (perhaps with a longer warranty). Would really appreciate suggestions of the costs and recommendations.

I don’t have a particular recommendation, but can I ask why you are replacing a perfectly good water heater simply because the warranty has expired? I’m no expert but a water heater should last a good 10+ years, and it seems like a waste on money to replace it now. Sure there may come a date where it fails and you will need to deal with the unpleasantness of no hot water for a couple days until it is replaced, but it could save you a lot of money in the long run.

Sessa Plumbing has been my plumber for nearly 10 years (since being the only plumber willing to come to my house on Christmas Eve when my basement flooded due to a sewer backup) and I strongly recommend them. They replaced my oil boiler and hot water header with gas units.
