Permit Needed for Mini Split Units?

Thinking about installing mini split units in a 2 family home. Are permits with DOB necessary for such a project ? The condensers would be in the back of a large garden in the front of the house. Not sure if the condensers need to be covered also. Thanks.

technically if you’re running a new 220v line to the condenser, yes an electrical permit is needed. For the mini splits themselves no permit is needed. Also, technically and if you want it to code, there needs to be a disconnect switch next to each indoor unit. Over kill, yes. But thats code. But most people don’t bother going down that route, unless it’s part of a larger remodel and inspectors are going to be coming over to check every square inch of the project.
