Paint First? Or Refinish Floors First?
I’ll be closing on an apartment soon and the place needs a new paintjob and the floors refinished.
Which makes sense to do first? Paint, then floors?

I’m in the middle of the same projects on the parlor floor. Decided to plaster and paint first, glad I did. Huge chunks of plaster fell from ceiling and made slight impressions on the wood floors. All done now and am ready to sand and refinish floors. I did opposite in the garden floor and regret it every time I look at the newly refinished floors. They need to be touched up and we were very cautious with the ceiling and wall plastering. mat315, good luck with your project.

It depends on how much plaster and prep is needed. If you are doing a lot of plaster work, then do the paint and plaster first and be prepared to vacuum your walls and touch up the paint after the floors have been done.
If you are just doing a light paint and plaster job, then you can do it the other way around and make sure to completely cover the floors once dry before painting etc.
Just be sure to take the time to allow each to properly dry before the other goes in.

First floors, Then paint. Refinishing Floors is a bit dusty, and there’s a good chance they’ll scuff up the baseboards anyway. After a few days, get some blue tape and paper on the floor and paint away.
