Overfill of coolant in mini-split A/C aircon system?
Has this happened to anyone?
I think it may have happened to me. In August, my system had a balky controller. I called my usual company to look at it. While the guy was checking my system, he said the outdoor unit needed to be cleaned (very true) and that it needed more coolant. The psi seemed to fluctuate between 36-48, if I recall. He said that was too low and shouldn’t fluctuate. The system was actually cooling just fine but I said “ok”. He filled it with more coolant until the psi was > 50. That cost I think $1,000.
Immediately afterward, I felt like my system performed much worse. It took much longer to cool. I complained to the company and they said “No, its just because the weather has gotten more humid”. I trust the company so I accepted that. But searching the internet, I see lots of problems can result from overfilling coolant. And now I think my outdoor unit is getting messed up and I wonder if its because the system is overfilled.
If you have experienced this or know something about it, please share.
I asked for recs for A/C guys in a separate post, but if you like your guy, please drop his name and number in here. Thank you in advance.
