no water in the house, but can feel water sloshing when walking on roof

recently had a nice roof put on. in the interim my neighboring house has had an addition put on. i noticed water is getting under the roof near the front of the house and couldnt tell from where, but i had the roofer out to check it and he said it was because of the new addition. is this something i should be going after the construction people about or should the roofer have fixed my roof so it was watertight irrespective of what the neighbors house looks like?

Did the new addition touch your roof? Is it draining runoff onto your roof? Were there contractors gadding about on your new roof during construction? if the answer to any of those questions is yes, then you should talk to your neighbor. If not, get back up to your roof with your roofer and ask him to figure out where the water is coming from. It’s so easy for someone to tell you “it’s because of what that guy did” but that doesn’t actually help anyone. Your roofer needs to tell you exactly what’s going on and what the resolution is, especially if it’s a new roof that is under a contractor’s or manufacturer’s warranty.

Assuming your “nice roof” means an additional layer of rolled membrane, did the roofer identify the point of entry? It seems hard to believe that it’s due to the new construction unless they also put a new roof on and somehow screwed up the seams of their roof and yours in the process.

If it’s a rolled membrane water is getting in between the old membrane and your new one somehow. So either your roofers screwed up the overlap, poorly added flashing at a seam.

I’d suggest asking the roofer to identify the point of entry. If they can I expect it will be clear it’s an area they’re at fault. If not, I expect they’ll still need to take responsibility.
