Newel Posts

Hello!

I’m looking for a replacement newel post. The previous owner installed a Home Depot one that doesn’t match the classic rounded style of the rest of the posts in the house. I’ve checked the Ironworks across the street from the Big Reuse and didn’t see anything that matched. It’s a long shot, but wanted to see if anyone here had anything lying around I could purchase.

He’s near Utica Ave and Atlantic Ave, not Utica A.C. stop but close by. He used to be closed on Monday or /and Tuesday. Def not there before noon

Randolph, good thought. I hadn’t. I reached out to Filip at STH and he’s going to quote me to construct a new one.

John – this Eddie person seems like a real elusive character! Does anyone have his address and even, potentially, his hours? I seem to remember he was somewhere by the Utica AC stop but can’t find the location.

Have you tried contacting a stair builder? we used a company called Stairway to Heaven (very clever!) when we had 3 flights of stairs rebuilt.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I am looking for a wooden newel post, not iron. I checked the Ironworks (at least I Think that’s what it’s called..? in any case I meant the place behind Lowes in Gowanus, across from the Big Reuse). I’ve had luck finding rail spindles there but the newel post selection is a little spare each time I’ve checked.

Bob, do you have any sense what it might cost to have a new one fabricated?

If the original style is rounded it might not be too hard to find a cabinet-maker with a lath to turn a new one.
