New Used Bosch Oven Stopped Working: Bosch Tech is Charging Exorbitant Fee

Hello Dear Brownstoners,

Once again reaching out to you for some pointers. My 3 year never used Bosch in-wall oven stopped working displaying E305 error which means that the electronic control board is not connected to the display panel. Bosch sent a tech and given that my oven was out of warranty, the tech charged me $400 to tell me the same thing I already knew. He then told me that to fix this issue it will cost me $1,300. First, the Bosch Technician did not instill confidence in me at all (it took him forever to diagnose the issues which took me 5 mins of googling). Second, fixing it for $1,300 sounds obscene especially given I dont trust that the Tech will do a good job.

Are there other decent repair people out there. I know I can buy a replacement part for $200 and I will need help replacing it. I am willing to pay but want to make sure someone does a good job. Also, maybe I should just pay $3,000 for a new oven? What do you think?

Any advice and pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Very reasonably priced. Very high quality and thoughtful appliance repairs: https://bklynservice.com

Thank you so much. Will try your suggestions. I should have known that official Bosch would be pricey. This is super helpful.

of course the bosch technician will charge more. i call a free lance appliance repair guy for my washer, not a factory authorized rep, and he is so cheap and fast that it is not worth my time (when considering the learning curve) for me to do this myself.

see what new owner says. i might call me guy and see what he says.

there is a guy who has a you tube video on how to change one of these on a series 6 oven. i am not sure how that differs from your model in placement of components and access to them but if i get time later i might look at the parts breakdowns for both and see how different they are from each other.

comments from others about this are that it is like changing a board in a pc (and until we began buying pc’s with all the bells and whistles, i used to open them all the time and add fax modems or video cards and swap hard drives; that is what this will be like, to a degree). and stuff like this, people swap stuff like this out all the time. know there is some risk, i have thought about all of the times i had done things like this and there are a couple of times i damaged the piece i was replacing or something else in the process. you have to work very slowly and do it when your patience and time are not limited.

I forgot this guy’s name but he services electric wall oven circuitry for pretty reasonable rates – I forget exactly how much he charges but definitely nowhere near $1,300! 917-595-8687.

Thank you so much, brownstone home inspection! Good points! The error is E305 and model is Bosch HBL57M52UC. The issue is in the over and not microwave. I reset electrical for a short and very long periods of time from circuit breaker and the error still comes back. Super annoying as I am trying to rent this apartment and now stuck with broken new oven.

a couple of things. “Not connected” does not imply to me that the part is bad. it implies that it is quite possibly good but not connected. maybe take a look at a parts break down for this or see if there is a you tube video of someone changing one to see what you are getting into. try it yourself.

you know what, post or send me the model number and i will look at how hard it is and tell you. if i look at it and think it would be hard for me, i will tell you don’t bother.

if you are considering getting rid of it anyway, it might be worth trying.
