New radiators for steam boiler system

I’ve seen a lot of the recent posts about mini-splits / keeping radiators as heat source back-up, and it got me thinking that I may want to “upgrade” our radiators. The ones that came with our house are all various shapes and sizes, look old and gross, being propped up by wood blocks below various radiator legs, etc., etc. Who knows how old these are – I assume new ones would look nicer and be more efficient (maybe that’s a wrong assumption), and I could get shapes / sizes that fit our spaces and needs better. Anyone have a ball park for what replacing a single radiator would cost in Brooklyn? We have I think 15 total. As with most things, it comes down to affordability…

Use wood checkers held to the appropriate height with wood glue instead of ugly wood shims. There are other ways to improve the look and reduce footprint of antique oversized radiators. Plumbers on rhis forum have displayed very strong plumber opinions about this in the past

we put a small cast iron one in our bathroom and that was like $90 for the radiator itself (some years back). and guess what, it is in and painted by me but sitting up on wood blocks. it might be hard to get away from the blocks of wood unless you change the height of the steam pipe: i wonder if someone makes adjustable and appropriate looking jacks for these?

YOU do not want those crappy looking little $100 radiators that i put in my bathroom. take a look at the Castrads website. Also, there is someone marketing radiators that look traditional (could be connected to castrads) and i was in a plumbing supply in the west 30’s (maybe 36st by 9th) over a decade ago that had one in their show room. it was sharp. scroll work.
