Neighbor Rats

I have a neighbor next door who has been unresponsive and doesn’t seem to care that he has about 20 rats that run into his brownstone basement every night. Main issue for me is that they use my stoop as a pathway to get into his home. Is there anything I can do to mitigate the rat issue next door, and also prevent them from running by my stoop every night.

Hi: i have the same problem on our block. I reached out to several neighbors regarding their trash and putting out their garbage in plastic bags. I have spent hundreds of dollars in exterminating fees but until everyone complies the rats will stay. they are using my yard as a pathway to the food and were under my stoop after they were fed. I got rid of them under the stoop and I am going to have a steel door to the entryway. It is ongoing.

if they are using your stoop to get to your neighbor’s house where are they coming from? is there a food source somewhere that could be eliminated so that your stoop is no longer an easy path between food and home? clean up any sign of their path (greasy streaks, droppings etc.) and make sure your entire property is free from any food sources or attractive paths. unfortunately there’ s not much you can actually do to your neighbor’s property withotu their permission.

Yes. I have the same situation. Rats live under my shed. But i do not feed the rats. The rats are not under my shed because i gave them a place to live. They are under my shed because my neighbors insist on feeding them by putting their trash out in black plastic bags. I refuse to feed them. I put lids on my cans and when i put bags out with food in them i pour ammonia in the bags.

I watch the rats leave my shed and run to cerrtain yards every night just like you do. In your case i suspect the rats live in the neighbor’s basement and work at the neighboring houses. You have to get rid of the food source. Good luck with that, especially if you have renters (the renters are the issue here).

I have spent at least $300 on poisons since last summer. You can call the city and they will address this and will put poison out. But until people stop feeding them, the rats will remain. Also, the rats sometimes watch their relationd die en masse and learn not to touch the poison. I break it up and put it in ground beef when that happens.

I use the li ttle green block by tomcat. They love it. Hd sells bags of 16.

Someone has to find a way to close that house up. I am contemplating jacking my shed up and pouring a concrete pad.

The city will address this if you call. But everyone on the street will get a violation, not just the guy running the boarding house.
