boo, thank you for posting that. Singh is newer (2014) so not on the radar of many of us but since Adriatic’s resaw broke, a year ago, i have had issues getting resawn wood. i do not believe singh carries sapele and mahogany though and that is a problem.

there is a yard on 25th st in manhattan who will make molding knives. i have never used them but a customer got a quote from them years ago and it was competitive with others.

Singh hardwood in the Rockaways are an absolute delight. Consumer friendly hours and a beautiful family who run it. Total interest in helping the one-off customer. We go to the beach in the am and get there before they close on Saturday, then grab some jerk at Goody’s.

Forget Adriatic – we used to go there and tolerated their non-consumer friendly hours because they’re ten minutes from our house but between that, the fact that they are generally geared towards large orders (like huge) not one-offs, and some not entirely pleasant interactions, we are glad we found Singh.

That or Dykes or the others recommended above.

May not have what you’re looking for, but we had a good experience sourcing mouldings from here: https://carved-decor.com/corbels-c60/?page=2 – FYI, can take 6-8 weeks to receive the piece

It is hard to find someone to come to create mouldings. If you want to recreate anything you can take a sample to Dykes or mail to Saw moulding. They will replicate it for you then finding an installer is much easier.

at that width you will need someone with a real molding machine. Unfortunately, the smaller machine that most people like me would have is a Williams and Hussey and i do not think that thing goes over 7″. Now. Be aware of this, a lot of these old moldings and many that i have recreated or made over the years are made in two or three or four parts. sometimes we even purchase profiles and put one or two together to recreate something or we buy one and rip it down to get the needed profile and then rebuild it with smaller custom made profiles. as you can imagine, this can get pricey.

For smaller stuff, custom router bits and shaper blades can be made. There are two firms in NJ who do this work. Schmidt being one of them.

the other option is Adriatic Wood Products on Pitkin Ave. They will make a blade and run whatever wood through their massive molding machines.

If you post a picture of what you are trying to recreate, i can look at it and tell you how many parts it might be or if it should or could be made in parts.
