Mortise Lock Help

Hi everyone, I’m trying to replace the mortise lock on an existing exterior door.

https://emtek.com/mortise-knob-by-knob-lever-by-lever/mormont-mortise

This is the mormont mortise lock by Emtek. The door thickness is 1-3/4″.

Attached is a pic of the existing door, can anyone guide me how I would see if the lock would fit?

J, i know less about those locks as i really work on entry doors and a few interior doors and their locks. I did remove some of these from the montauk club and got them working again.

From what i can see, most of these made in the 19th century appear standardized in size but good luck finding a modern replacement.

In so far as the key. There may very well be a common key between all the locks for a manufacturer. I don’t know. I think the key is called a bit or ward key. I know who can make one: phil sr. at greenwich locksmith on 7th ave south below houston. You would have to bring the lock body to him. He can fix this stuff as well. He is a real old fashioned locksmith. He has been at this so long that i once heard a story that he used to make the locks for the garter belts the english knights used to put on their wives when they went off the fight in the crusades.

Will take you up on the offer. We have original locks on the pocket doors of our brownstone. Any idea 1 if those are unique locks or if there is a standard set that’s likely to fit or 2 whether we need to remove the lock to figure out the right key. Thanks!

Jimmy, i can go into pretty deep details on mortise lock installation on here and if you gave me specific questions, i can answer them all.

Most lock cases and face plates are close in size. Most modrrn. Most modern, baldwin. Emtek, marks will fit each others pocket but the issue arrises when we try to use one manufacturers lock plates with another’s lock body; the holes do not align.

I have some time now before i put my hands on a pair of doors. You can give me a call and i will do my best to address your concerns and allay your fears.

For others reading this, post your lock questions here on this board.
