Modifying fire sprinklers / installing sidewall sprinklers

I’m buying a property that already has a sprinkler system in place from decades ago, with upright sprinklers in the center of each room. The uprights are supplied by pipes coming out of the sidewall into each room, typically above the doorway.

Given how intrusive this approach is, I’d like to replace the uprights/supply piping with side-wall sprinklers located directly where or close to the supply piping comes through the side wall in each room.

Curious if anyone on the board has done something similar and if it was a relatively simple process in terms of filings, cost of modifications, etc.

Consult a plumber that specializes in sprinkler installation.
It will all need to be filed, so yes on a subjective scale including the needed carpentry, plaster etc etc it is not a cheap alteration. It is one of those issues that if you open up the can of worms, the City will want you to bring it all up to today’s codes and the codes on sprinklers are all expensive. So consult a good plumber first to see what you will be opening up.
