Metro Box trash can enclosures

I am looking for advice from people who have purchased Metro Box trash can enclosures. There are some recommendations on the site and the boxes do look great, but I have a couple of questions:

Do the boxes attract rats or other creatures? The website for the company says they do not, but I know some people with other types of enclosures have had problems.

Also, is Landmarks approval required?

We bought Metroboxes about 4 years ago for 135 Henry St, Brooklyn heights you can swing past anytime to check out how they are aging……i’d buy them again if thats any indication.

Only issue i have with them is that the threaded legs are too short to be adjustable for anything other than a minor slope and that the chain broke on the lids after about 3 years.

Most people wont notice the leg issue (though i let the seller know at the time this was a design issue) and it took me about 20 mins to replace the chains with nylon coated steel wire that solved the lid problem.

Would reccomend and am surprised more people dont buy them.

I posted about this not too long ago. If you live in a Historic District, Landmarks will need to approve any garbage bin container visible in the front of your house (not garbage cans, just the protective/decorative containers surrounding them). I successfully filed for the Metro Boxes, it wasn’t hard, and now there is precedence. They are pretty much rat-proof, since they only have very small ventilation holes and you can lock the lids down if you desire. Let me know if you want to chat more about that. Cheers!

You shouldn’t need for the box to repel rats. All your garbage should be in cans with tight lids. By the way the “pizza rat” was a hoax!

see the orig thread on this topic…NO type of material in NYC will shield creatures, ie the rat that went viral carrying a slice of pizza down the subway stairs~maybe an electomagnetic field.
