Metal grating

Where can I begin looking for a selection of metal grating that could be used for a bridge from the rear of the house to the yard? There is a 7’ drop between the first floor and the yard. We are looking for something other than diamond plate. Preferably something grated or perforated. I’d like to have an idea before I start bidding it out. Thanks.

2nd that recommendation for Lopololo.

We’ve used them for 2 small projects our coop + then we hired them to build out deck, awesome team and will do the job right.

Before you commit to metal grates, check out the metal frame + porcelain tile style that they built for us, much easier on the feet than metal grates.

I recently had a new iron staircase installed in my back yard by Lopololo (http://www.ironworkdesigns.com/).

Initial spec was diamond plate treads, but as I wanted step where water would not pool, I asked for options and was offered ‘subway grating’, which is essentially just that – very solid iron grating, just like you see on the subway vents on sidewalk. No idea of specific cost for this, as it was part of overall package of stairs, install, removal of old unit, etc.

Not sure if terminology is universal, but try that with your suppliers to see if helps.

Confused. You can prob get a quote from Rapid Steel for example but an ironworking shop buys a lot and will likely get a better rate. Any ironworking shop can make a steel deck with bar grating or other material. Steel tube posts, beams, etc – i’m just not understanding why not bid out the whole job including grate? The first thing steel distributor will ask you is who you are, and likely won’t provide a competitive rate to you.
