Looking to vault ceiling

Hi – I had a contractor do a gut but looking at the ceiling height I think he didn’t try to maximize heigh on the parlor floor. I am looking to vault the ceiling and get recos. My designer/arch looking at the height depth at the stairs (looking at depth on the floor above) thinks there’s room to vault. Has anyone done this?
