Looking for recommendations for a metal worker to repair a damaged summer cover
Getting ready to retrofit a salvaged marble mantel / summer cover and would love recommendations for someone who could repair a small damaged area of the summer cover. Attaching a pic of the small piece that need the work. Appreciate any leads! [IMG_4558](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:PqD6:img_4558.jpg.jpg)

As promised, here’s Ingrid Van Shipley’s website:

Molten metal might be overkill if the cover is going to stay in place and be decorative. I’ll look up Ingrid’s website and post it.

Heres the truth. When someone like me does this stuff it can be “experimental” because we do so little of it. We can get through it but sometimes have to try again. If it is not a field someone wishes to venture into as part of their specialty, it is a waste of time trying to master it.
I would find someone like bob mentions – a cross medium artist.
That cross medium person might be able to make a sand cast and pour metal into the cast. This is easy for someone with a crucible.

I had the missing carvings I mentioned cast by Ingrid VanShipley. Ingrid is basically a decorative painter, but she can do much more.

So, really recreating this is an artists sort of job. I once had a customer whose job was to recreate dinasour bones at the natural history museum. You need someone like that.

The person who cast the missing composition “carvings” from two of my mantles experimented with various materials and ended up y it song expanding polyurethane foam. It worked very well.

Put a release agent on it and make a plaster mold. Then put a release agent on the plaster mold and using jb weld epoxy, make a copy of the piece.

It might be more practical to have a mold made from the intact side and have the missing part cast out of some non-metallic material.
