looking for laborer WITH TOOLS to dig holes in basement
I’m looking for a day laborer who could dig four foot-square holes in our basement right next to each of the four walls–through about an inch of concrete into the dirt below–to find out how deep the foundation walls go. He/she would need a sledgehammer and shovel. Does anyone know anyone who could do this?

I did exactly that. We found that our foundation went down over 16″. It allowed me to lower my cellar floor without underpinning, doing surveys and required permission from adjoining neighbors. I asked my GC to dig the pits but who would I have called if I didn’t have one. We ended up finding huge rocks too which the test pits didn’t reveal unfortunately. Despite the added cost it was still worth it to have a finished cellar.

Call or text Richard Tross at 929 275 8677. I met him outside of Lowes several projects ago. I’ve found if you keep him supplied with plenty of cold water, hot tea, some basic snacks (and his daily rate of course) he will work hard all day and be happy doing it.

Actually Randolph, depending on the purpose, I don’t think this is a bad idea. I am guessing that these are for the “test pits” that structural engineers require in order to inspect the footings. I just had this done recently, and my structural engineer said that this wasn’t complicated and risky. In fact he suggested that I just get common laborers to dig the pits as he said they are “just holes”.
To answer the poster’s question. I just used a contractor I know. Be advised you may find some rather large rocks while digging. Also 1 person is probably not enough if you want it done quickly. My contractor had 6 people digging in shifts, and I think it took them 2 days.

WOW this sounds like a really bad idea.
