If it’s not yours and it was not stolen from you then you have no legal claim.
Any type of neglect does not have any impact on ownership until the property gets auctioned off or transferred via ‘third party transfer program’ for example. Even if the property is owing back taxes to the city or the disgusting tax lien fund, there is nothing you can do except make an offer to the owner and buy the deed. Then you are legally an ‘indispensable party’ and you can enter the fight if there is one.

I’d like to consult a lawyer about whether to make a legal claim to an abandoned/neglected patch of land that is adjacent to, and once belonged to, our back yard. Does anyone know of a lawyer who deals with these sorts of things?
