Leaking Skylight
We have a relatively new (about five years old) skylight that is leaking. The leak appears to be the metal seam in the center top of the skylight. Nothing to do with flashing. Should I call a roofer or a skylight company to fix? How would they fix this? It might even still be under warranty but our old roofers retired and I cannot contact them. I have no idea who makes the skylight. Photo attached. [Leaking-skylight](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s1/:brownstoner:cNmG:leakingskylight.jpg.jpg)

Those air vents can be fairly easily closed up by a contractor. Although I suspect you’re right that modern Velux-style skylights are a better option.

I posted recently about my own skylight leaks. I decided to go with a replacement. One thing the contractor told me (and I had been told before) is that these skylights have permanent air vents that suck your heated air out to the world unless there is lower interior glass – often stained glass originally. Yet they still get installed “naked” inside what is meant to be living space. I can see a contractor putting one on a one story extension a few doors down from me. Maybe it it time to bite the bullet and put in a modern skylight?

Try Premier. Not sure if they make their own or contract them out but they certainly install and repair this style of skylight.

We have this here with rust on it. I keep wanting to say this or that, but fear until the rust is stabilized, anything that is applied will lift off.

Can you access the roof safely? Take a look and send a photo for us to see. Maybe try a simple fix for now silicone material on the metal seam?

Following. I have the exact same problem with a much older skylight.
