Lead paint removal and painting

Does anyone have any recommendations for lead paint removal companies or painting companies they have worked with? Are there companies who do both? Most of the work is straightforward, but we do have one tricky surface, a rusting and flaking tin ceiling, that needs an experienced painter to evaluate. It appears to have a layer of water-based primer covering the original oil-based primer and paint. Thank you.

one way me thinks you can find such a beast cate is look to see who has the EPA license. i heard there was a directory someplace, like on the EPA website. someone like myself, who knows a lot about finishes and finishing would NOT know what the licensed folks are and would not know what has to be done to deal with it.

I wonder if that water based primer is actually calcimine, a sort of whitewash that was once used on ceilings? The stuff was washed off before a new coat was applied. It’s a problem for people who try paining ceilings in old houses with latex because, while it’s OK with oil-based paint over it, it peels when coated with water-based. OTOH I can’t imagine how calcimine, or any water-based coating could be applied to a tin ceiling without causing rust spots to appear.
